Arrest after dog tracks offender –Alice Springs - 4733601

A 20-year-old man was arrested after a police general purpose dog tracked him into scrubland after an unlawful entry.

Police received a report from a member of the public who noticed suspicious behaviour near Mercorella Circuit around 10:30pm on Saturday night. The man told police he witnessed someone loading property into a Mitsubishi Pajero. When confronted the man fled the area. The witness called police and a general purpose Police dog tracked the offender to where he was found hiding in nearby scrubland.

The man was arrested and will be summonsed to appear in court a later date.

Superintendent Michael Murphy said the quick-thinking member of the public who alerted police was to be commended.

"This is a good example of the community looking out for one another," Supt Murphy said.
