Arrest - Crime Spree - Darwin

A 29-year-old man has been remanded in custody after a crime spree in Darwin in the early hours of Thursday morning.



The incident began at about 12:45 am when the man drove to the Coles Express Airport Gates in Winnellie and smashed the front glass doors with a golf club to gain entry. Once inside the shop, the offender attempted to steal cigarettes however the cabinet was locked, instead he stole a pair of thongs and fled the scene in his white utility.



He then drove to the United Petrol Station in Winnellie where he attempted to enter the shop. When the attendant opened the glass doors the offender lunged at him with the golf club, the attendant immediately pushed the doors shut and locked the man out. The offender then fled the scene and drove to Browns Mart where he smashed a window to gain entry to the premises. Once inside he stole two bottles of champagne and a laptop computer before jumping back into his Ute and driving to the Palm City Resort.



The man is alleged to have caused a disturbance at the resort before throwing a champagne bottle at a taxi.



Police located the man at Palm City Resort where he was arrested and conveyed to the Darwin Watch House.


He has since been charged and remanded in custody to appear at Darwin Magistrates Court in relation to the following offences;



Attempted Robbery

2 x Unlawful entry

2 x Stealing

Damage property

Prepare, commit, conceal a crime

Trespass on enclosed premises and disorderly in a public place.
