Arrest for stabbing – Alice Springs - 4693545

A 28-year-old man will face court after allegedly stabbing his mother in Alice Springs on Saturday.

Police received a report just after 1.30pm that a 55-year-old woman had been stabbed twice at the Northside shopping complex. Witnesses told police the woman's son stabbed her once to the shoulder and once to the chest with a steak knife, puncturing her lung. The woman was taken by ambulance to the Alice Springs Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

The alleged offender was arrested by police at the scene. He has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious harm and being armed with an offensive weapon. He was refused bail and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
