Attempted abduction - Lyons

Police

Police are calling on witnesses in relation to a possible attempted abduction that occurred at approximately 3:10 pm yesterday.

It is alleged that a 13-year-old boy was walking home from school along Henbury Avenue in Lyons when he saw a white van approaching.

A man from the vehicle has then walked rapidly up behind the boy. The boy struck out with his arm, hitting the male before running off.

The man then returned to his vehicle and fled the scene.

Police were alerted to the incident a short time later when the boy returned home and told his parents.

The offender is described to be approximately 188 cm's tall and at the time of the incident was wearing a bright yellow shirt with no collar and orange pants.

He was also wearing green boots with white socks and an orange or red hat. He is also believed to have a badly sunburnt neck.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant David Richardson said that this should act as a warning to all parents with school aged children.

"The boy was very brave in this incident and did exactly the right thing".

"Being the beginning of another school year, it is vital that parents sit down with their kids and discuss the four r's.
"Recognise danger, refuse any offer, run away and report the incident straight away to a responsible adult or parent" he said.

Police urge anyone that may have information in relation to the event, who was near the cricket pitch between 3:00 and 3:40pm, or who may recognise this male, to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
