The causeways were closed yesterday morning following a substantial amount of rainfall in the Alice Springs catchment area.
Acting Senior Sergeant Rudy Jamieson said motorists were being urged to take care when crossing causeways as water was still continuing to flow over them in some areas.
"We are also appealing to people not to swim in the river due to the dangers of drowning in the fast-flowing water and the threat from underwater hazards and water-borne diseases."
