Cyclone Watch Update 1 - Preparedness

Police

A cyclone watch remains in place for the Tiwi Islands and coastal communities
between Cape Hotham and Mitchell Plateau in WA, including Darwin and rural area,
Port Keats, Kununurra, Wyndham and Kalumburu.

Residents are reminded to put together emergency kit's, clear yards and balconies and commence home
shelter preparations

Peter Davies, Director Emergency Services said this is the time to be prepared,

"We all need to remain prepared for the possibility of a cyclone although it is looking increasingly unlikely.

"However, for Darwin and the Tiwi Islands, we can expect gusty monsoonal storms.

"We are not expecting the weather to be as intense as that experienced in the recent cyclone Carlos.

"Residents should not be complacent and need to consider their own circumstances and environment, especially those in low lying areas.

"This is a time to be prepared, but not alarmed." Mr Davies said.

Northern Territory Emergency Services offer preparation advice on their website located at www.emergency.nt.gov.au. Alternatively, their office can be contacted on 8922 3630.
