Drunk drivers continue to frustrate Police

Police

Four mid to high range drink drivers were caught over the weekend and Police are amazed nobody was seriously hurt by this narrow-minded and careless behaviour.

On Sunday morning, Police watched a car swerve onto the dirt shoulder then veer back across into the oncoming lane of Temple Terrace in Palmerston.

A 38-year-old female driver was apprehended and she was unable to supply a road side breath test.  The woman was tested at the Darwin Watch House where a blood alcohol level of 0.237 was recorded.  She has two previous high-range drink driving convictions.

In the early morning of Saturday, Tennant Creek Police were attempting a traffic apprehension when the car they were following skidded at high speed into a driveway.

Five people including three children were asleep on a mattress in the front yard at the time, and the car came to rest with its wheels touching the mattress.

The 28-year-old female driver returned a breath test of 0.173.

On Sunday morning, Police stopped a speeding vehicle who was caught doing 97km/h in a 70 zone.  The 23-year-old female driver returned a reading of 0.118.

Last night, a 37-year-old male driver blew 0.121 at a random breath testing station on East Point Road.

Senior Sergeant Andrew Heath, Officer in Charge of Darwin Traffic Operations said, "Some drivers are still being irresponsible and risking the lives of other roads users by driving motor vehicles while under the influence of alcohol. It is clear the message is not get out to all members of the public. If you drink and drive you will get caught. If you are caught you deserve it and loss of your drivers licence will be the least of your worries. Road users need to be responsible, plan ahead and help to keep each other safe."
