Kava Arrest - Nhulunbuy

A 30-year-old man from Narraweena, NSW has been charged with Supply a Trafficable Quantity of Kava at Nhulunbuy Airport yesterday. Nhulunbuy Police seized just over 39 kilograms of kava after searching the man's baggage. One black suitcase contained 21 x 1kg bags of kava, and 5 x 160 gram bags of kava powder. One green suitcase contained 15 x 1kg bags and 15 x 160 gram bags of kava. Acting Superintendent Clint Sims said, "The street value of this seizure is approximately $40,000. This is a potentially significant amount of money coming out of the community and directly into the pockets of the criminals supplying this product. Police will continue to target kava runners across the Top End because of the devastating effect it has on our communities." The man has been bailed and will be appear in the Nhulunbuy Magistrates Court on 7th June, 2011. Lisa Hutton 0417 770 686
