Leanyer Fatal House Fire

Police

Northern Territory Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of a fatal house fire in Darwin's northern suburb of Leanyer.

Police, Fire and Rescue, and Ambulance officers were called to the blaze on Murrabibbi Street about half-past-two this morning.

A 57-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were pulled from the burning house but the man could not be resuscitated and died.

The woman remains in a serious condition in the Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detective Superintendent Kris Evans says police are questioning a person of interest who is helping police with their inquiries.

Detective Superintendent Evans would also like to acknowledge the efforts of police and fire fighters who initially fought the blaze - and the heroic actions of a neighbour who was injured trying to rescue the people from the house.
