Man Arrested for Taxi Robbery

General Crime Detectives have arrested a 21-year-old male in relation to two incidents that have occurred in the last two months.

The first incident the male is alleged to have been involved in was on Monday 18 July in Nightcliff.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Board of the General Crime Section said a 22-year-old taxi driver collected the man in Rapid Creek and drove him to Grevillea Circuit in Nightcliff.

“It is alleged that the offender threatened the driver with a knife whilst demanding money,” Acting Senior Sergeant Board said.

“He fled the scene with a sum of cash.

The second incident occurred in Anula at around 9:10 pm on Tuesday 6 September.

“A 26-year-old taxi driver collected the alleged offender from the Beachfront Hotel and drove him to Driffield Street in Anula.

“Once at the location, he stated that he had a knife and assaulted the driver before fleeing the area empty handed.

“These acts were cowardly and I am pleased that with the assistance from the public that we have been able to locate and arrest him.”

He remains in Police custody and is likely to be charged later today.
