Man on scooter arrested - Darwin

Police

A 26-year-old male will appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today following his arrest after an incident that occurred last week.

A 59-year-old woman was driving her Ford Falcon in Jingili and had stopped at the intersection of Rothdale and McMillans Road at approximately 4:30 pm 25 January.

The 26-year-old male has then allegedly ridden alongside the vehicle on a scooter, knocked on her window and when she wound it down, he reached in and grabbed a wallet from the passengers side seat.

He then conducted a u-turn on Rothdale Road and travelled towards Casuarina.

The victim also turned around and followed the male, obtaining his registration plate details as well as a description of the rider.

Police were alerted to the incident a short time later and located and arrested the male at the Darwin Airport on Saturday Morning.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court today.
Superintendent Rob Jordan said that this was a great result.
"The woman in the vehicle was very wise and chose to follow the rider for some time to gather as many details as she could. It was due to this information that we were able to locate and arrest this man, less than an hour before he was to leave the NT" he said.
