Operation Sark - Drug Seizure

Police



The resolution of this operation aimed at the supply of methamphetamine in Darwin commenced yesterday morning and resulted in the seizure of a large amount of drugs.

Members from the Drug and Organised Crime Section initially executed a search warrant at a house in Wulagi where they located the following:

0.54 grams of cannabis resin
8.6 grams of cannabis seeds
2.1 grams of cannabis
6.65 grams of ecstasy
57.05 grams of methamphetamine
1 x .45 calibre colt automatic pistol
22 x .45 calibre rounds
Glassware
261.41 grams of ephedrine
Over $130, 000 in cash
144.52 grams of a crystalline substance - currently undergoing analysis

A short time later members executed a subsequent search at a house on Lee Point Road where an additional 37.9 grams of methamphetamine was located and seized.

Police then attended Cullen Bay and conducted a search of a vessel owned by the alleged offender, where two drug smoking implements were located.

The man was arrested and conveyed to Darwin Watch House where he was later charged in relation to the following offences:

Possess Dangerous Drug - Cannabis
Possess Dangerous Drug - Cannabis Seeds
Possess Dangerous Drug - Cannabis Resin
Possess Dangerous Drug - MDMA - Trafficable
2 x Possess Dangerous Drug - Methamphetamine - Trafficable
Possess Precursor to Manufacture a Dangerous Drug
Possess Article to Manufacture a Dangerous Drug
Possess Firearm while Unlicensed
Possess Ammunition without a Permit
Fail to Meet Storage Requirements
Possession of Dangerous Goods
Received Property - Commission of an Offence.

"This was a high end police operation targeting what we will allege was a significant amphetamine distribution network." Said Detective Acting Superintendent Andrew Pusterla.

"Police again warn the public that amphetamine type stimulants are often made in backyard conditions and people using them risk serious harm."
