Structure Fire - Palmerston

NT Fire Investigators are currently at the scene of a structure fire in Palmerston.

NT Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the blaze at Palmerston Motor Vehicle Registry on University Avenue at about 11:00 am today after staff noticed flames coming from the ceiling.

The building was immediately evacuated and Fire Fighters, St John Ambulance and Police attended the scene.

The fire was extinguished within minutes using dry chemical powder and the building has since been ventilated and rendered safe. It is expected to be closed for a number of days.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

Fire Investigators remain at the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Palmerston Station Officer, Matthew Brookhouse, praised the actions of staff members.

"The NTFRS are extremely pleased the actions of staff at the office; they immediately evacuated the premises, contacted the Fire and Rescue Service, closed the office to help contain the fire and waited at their muster point until fire officers arrived" he said.
