Territory Deployment for New Zealand

Police

Four Urban Search and Rescue qualified technicians from the Territory will head to New Zealand tomorrow, to help in the aftermath of last month's fatal earthquake.

The group is made up of three NT Fire and Rescue officers and one NT Emergency Services volunteer.

Two are from Darwin and two from Alice Springs.

They will form part of a 72-strong, Australia wide taskforce, heading to Christchurch to aid the recovery effort.

The group will convene at the Richmond Air Force base in New South Wales, before being deployed to New Zealand for 10 days.

They will be responsible for stabilising damaged structures and gaining access to collapsed buildings for the recovery of victims.

The taskforce will be accommodated in tents and catered for by the New Zealand Army during its deployment.
