The Territory Helps Flood Ravaged Qld

Police

A contingent from the Northern Territory this morning headed to Queensland to assist authorities in the flood ravaged state.

They will form part of an interstate taskforce of 34, made up of 10 personnel each from Victoria and South Australia, six from Tasmania and four each from the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

The Territory team consists of three Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) Personnel and a Northern Territory Emergency Service (NTES) volunteer - all trained Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Category II Technicians.

They're expected to be deployed to the hardest hit areas of Brisbane and Ipswich, including the Lockyer Valley and their major task will be to conduct search and rescue activities in damaged structures.

The Territorians are expected to be on operational duties for seven days, and planning is underway to facilitate any future requests for resources.
