Tourist assaulted – Alice Springs

Police

Two males have been arrested following an incident in Alice Springs last night in which a tourist was assaulted and robbed.

The 25-year-old male victim told police he and his 25-year-old girlfriend were walking north along Gap Road towards the Todd mall around 10pm when they were walked past a group of young people. Two of the group asked the pair for cigarettes and when they refused one of the males in the group threatened to punch the male victim. The victim ducked the punched and tackled the offender to the ground but a second offender hit him over the back of the head with a glass bottle.

The two victims then ran off and sheltered at a nearby motel where police were called. The victim told police he had lost his wallet during the assault.

Police arrested two males aged 16 and 21 in the early hours of this morning in relation to the incident.

They are yet to be interviewed.
