Alleged sexual assault - Leanyer

Police

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Division are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.

It’s alleged the teenager was confronted by two men in the car park of the Hibiscus Shopping Centre in Leanyer, about 9:45pm Sunday the 10th of June.

“The matter was reported to Police today and Detectives from the Sex Crimes Division immediately launched an investigation” Detective Acting Sergeant Corey Borton said.

“Preliminary inquiries suggest the offenders forced the girl at knife-point to a park near the shopping centre and sexually assaulted her.”

“Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the vicinity of the Hibiscus Shopping Centre or the nearby tavern. Please contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 with any information which may assist in the investigation."

The offenders are described as Aboriginal appearance and both about 180cm tall.

One offender was wearing a black T-shirt with a picture on the front and ¾ length Khaki cargo pants.

The second offender was said to be wearing all black clothing.

“Police take crimes such as this very seriously and urge everyone, particularly at night and alone, to take precautions to protect their personal safety” Detective Acting Sergeant Borton said.

“This is unacceptable to the community and Police.  Detectives from the Sex Crimes Division are conducting a thorough investigation to catch those responsible.”
