Drink Driver Arrested – Alice Springs

Police

Police in Alice Springs arrested a 19-year-old woman after it is alleged she attempted to run over a Police Officer on the weekend.

Sergeant Conan Robertson of the Southern Traffic Operations Unit said Police were conducting random breath tests (RBT’s) on the Stuart Highway near Hele Crescent around 7:10pm when the incident occurred.

“It is alleged the female driver of a Ford Falcon sedan, approached the highly visible RBT station and despite Police direction, failed to pull over,” Sergeant Robertson said.

“It is also alleged the woman drove directly at a Police Officer causing them to take evasive action to avoid being struck.

“The driver fled the area and was located in her vehicle a short time later at the intersection of Wills Terrace and the Stuart Highway. She was conveyed back to the Police Station and recorded a breath alcohol content reading of 0.261 percent. The Ford Falcon was also missing its windscreen and further checks revealed the woman had never held a license.

She has been charged with:

  • Recklessly endanger serious harm
  • Drive high range blood alcohol content
  • Fail to obey signal of a member
  • Drive motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • Drive vehicle in manner dangerous
  • Drive a motor vehicle unsafe to drive.

The woman was released on bail and is to appear in the Alice Springs Court on 21 August 2012.

“This woman could have easily caused serious harm to herself, Police and other road users. Thankfully, due to swift moving Officers, that was avoided and she was apprehended within a short time,” Sergeant Robertson said.
