Detectives and Katherine Police have arrested three men for alleged drug and weapon offences following Operation Dornoch this week.
A further three men were issued summons for possession of dangerous drugs after Police executed five search warrants targeting illicit drug suppliers in the town.
Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims said it was an unfortunate fact that drug use and property crime went hand in hand.
“We have seen a spike in property crime and Operation Dornoch was planned to combat these people who profit from causing harm to others in our community. Officers from the Dog Operation Unit combined with Detectives to identify and apprehend these offenders.”
During the Operation Police seized more than 600 grams of cannabis, 3 grams of amphetamine and a small quantity of ecstasy.
Also seized during the search warrants were a semi-automatic pistol, a replica pistol and a taser.
“We are committed to reducing the availability of illicit drugs throughout the Northern Territory because of its devastating flow on effects.” Detective Senior Sergeant Sims said.
“Anyone intent on profiting from the sale of drugs can be assured that we will continue to run operations like this on a regular basis.”
A 38 year-old man was bailed to appear in Katherine Magistrates Court on October 23rd charged with possessing and supplying a commercial quantity of cannabis and weapon offences. Two men, aged 35 and 47 were charged with possessing and supplying cannabis.
