Four Arrested in Drug Raid

Police

Drug and Organised Crime Squad Detectives have concluded ‘Operation Blackout.’

The major operation targeted a criminal network allegedly transporting cannabis from Melbourne for sale in Darwin.

Police will allege a rental car was used to transport 10 pounds of cannabis from Melbourne, arriving in Darwin on Saturday 14th July.  Police monitored the drugs being delivered to the facilitator of the operation at a Bayview address before raiding the Bayview property, a residence in Berrimah and a hotel room in Darwin.   As a result of the raids Police arrested four people and seized the following:

  • 10 pounds of cannabis
  • $36,000 cash
  • Steroids and a trafficable quantity of LSD

The four persons, three males aged 38, 32 and 31 and a 21 year-old female, have been remanded in custody and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today on a range of charges.

Acting Superintendent Peter Schiller of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad said that the arrests should serve as a deterrent to those people considering entering the drug business.

“This has been a very successful operation from our perspective with the supplier, the organiser and the distributor all currently before the courts.  If sold in street deals in Darwin this seizure would have realised over $100,000.  This figure would more than double if sold in remote communities.”
