Girl Faces Court After Allegedly Stabbing Man Darwin

Northern Territory Police said a teenaged girl was due to appear in the Juvenile Court this morning after she allegedly stabbed a man in an unprovoked attack.

The 16-year-old has been in custody since being arrested by Detectives from the Family Violence Unit yesterday morning.

The Officer in Charge of the Family Violence Unit, Detective Sergeant Brett Cottier, said the altercation occurred when the girl became violent after the pair had been drinking on Friday night.

“In the early hours of Saturday morning the girl approached an 18-year-old man outside a licensed premises in Palmerston and allegedly punched him once to the jaw,” Detective Sergeant Cottier said.

“To avoid the girl, the man returned to a house in Palmerston, however she followed him and again became violent yelling at him.

“The man has tried to again walk away however the girl has allegedly armed herself with a knife, pushed the man to the ground and jumped on top of him swinging the knife around violently.

“During a struggle, the man, while trying to protect himself, received a cut to the inside of his left hand and stab wounds to the upper arm and ribs.”

Detective Sergeant Cottier said Officers from the Family Violence Unit did a remarkable job securing evidence, following up potential witnesses and arresting the girl.

“The teen was charged with:

Aggravated assault;

Unlawfully cause harm, and;

Use a controlled weapon at night.”
