Man Assaulted - Nightcliff

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man following a large disturbance and aggravated assault in Nightcliff.

Superintendent James O’Brien said Police received a report of a disturbance involving up to 20 people at around 10:30 pm.

“It is alleged two men, aged 43 and 39, heard what sounded like an assault at Bill Bell Park near the intersection of Casuarina Drive and Jacaranda Avenue and attended to assist,” Superintendent O’Brien said.

“When the two arrived they were set upon by the group. The 43-year-old man was allegedly struck to the back of the head with a pole, knocking him unconscious.

“Police and St John Ambulance members attended and conveyed the victim to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. The man’s 39-year-old brother received minor injuries.

“The 19-year-old man was located at the scene and remains in Police custody assisting with enquiries.

“Police urge anyone who may have information relating to the incident to contact them on 131 444.”
