Police

A 36-year-old man will face court in Katherine this morning charged with gross indecency of a child under 16 and supplying cannabis and a volatile substance.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims said Detectives from the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk and Katherine Investigations Section arrested the man at Beswick yesterday.

“Police allege the man has been driving around the Beswick Community supplying petrol and cannabis to local teenagers in hope of receiving sexual favours,” Detective Senior Sergeant Sims said.

“Police allege that on one occasion the man drove three teenagers to an isolated location where he supplied them with petrol to sniff.

“It is alleged once the teenagers became affected by the fumes, the man exposed himself to one of the teenagers while attempting to entice her into a sexual act.

“In two separate incidents, Police allege the man supplied petrol and cannabis to a teenager in exchange for an introduction to a girl to have sex with.”

Detective Sims said the alleged incidents occurred in 2011 and 2012.

The man was charged with:

Commit Act Gross Indecency – Child under 16 years old
Unlawful supply of volatile substances
Unlawfully supply cannabis to another

He was remanded in custody after his arrest and will appear in Katherine Magistrates Court today.
