Detectives from the Major Crime Squad have charged a 37-year-old man with the murder of a 60-year-old man in Coolalinga on Saturday night.

At approximately 8:30 pm on Saturday, Police, Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance were called to a house on Wells Creek Road after receiving a report that a man had been set on fire.

Detective Senior Sergeant Graeme Wheeler from the Major Crime Squad said initial investigations suggest that the 37-year-old man doused the victim with fuel and then set him alight.

“The 60-year-old man was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition but died late Sunday morning.

“The 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene shortly after the incident and was charged today with one count of murder and one count of fail to rescue/provide help. He will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Wheeler.
