Missing Man Located - Litchfield

Police

A 39-year-old man has been located this morning around 30 kilometres from where he was reported missing in Litchfield National Park yesterday evening.

Acting Superintendent Shaun Gill from the Territory Response Group (TRG) said the man was located safe and well on a walking track near Walker Creek Ranger Station at around 10:00 this morning.

“The successful recovery was a combined effort of over 35 people including: 17 TRG members; two Police Officers from Batchelor station; six Northern Territory Emergency Service (NTES) volunteers; and around ten NT Parks and Wildlife Rangers,” Acting Superintendent Gill said.

“The man was reported missing by a friend, after he allegedly went for a swim in Florence Falls, a nearby swimming area, and mistakenly followed the wrong walking track.

“Search crews continued their extensive search of the area by foot, bike and helicopter, early this morning.

“Searching for anybody in the terrain in Litchfield Nation Park is always going to be a difficult task.

“I commend the efforts of all those involved. Everybody worked extremely hard and there was a great sense of relief when the man was located.”
