Police have this afternoon released the description of a suspect in relation to an unlawful entry that occurred at the weekend, in which a firearm was stolen.

Senior Constable Wade Jeremiah said Police would like to hear from any member of the public who may have seen a person fitting this description near Eric Street, Alawa, at around 5pm on Sunday.

“The woman has light skin, is of Aboriginal appearance, about 20 years old with messy hair, which was up at the time,” Snr Const Jeremiah said.

“She was wearing a red and white horizontal striped shirt and three-quarter length, navy coloured pants.”

Snr Const Jeremiah said Police were always concerned when firearms were stolen.

"Obviously any time a firearm is stolen it is a concern to Police due to the risk to personal safety,” he said.

“We would urge members of the public with any information to please contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.”

The firearm is a Miroku 12 gauge over and under shotgun with a dark blue barrel. Timber on the shotgun is matt at the butt end and gloss at the fore end, with a decorative inlay.

The shotgun was stored in a multi-coloured rifle bag, green at the top and camouflage at the bottom, with a full length zipper.

No-one was home at the time but it appears the offender entered the building after climbing onto a first floor balcony and forcing open a glass sliding door before searching the residence, Police said.

Snr Const Jeremiah said a number of other items were stolen, including a new silver Toshiba laptop, jewellery and other personal items.

He also reminded people to lock up their houses and take extra measures when going away for the weekend or on holiday.

“Please keep your homes secure with doors and windows locked at all times,” Snr Const Jeremiah said.

“When you are away from home for long periods of time inform police and your neighbours, have your mail collected and keep your yard tidy and your lawn mowed.”
