Police Officers in the Alice Springs region have charged three people for assaulting Police since Thursday 30 August.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren of the Southern Investigations Division said it was fortunate that the six Officers involved had not been more seriously injured.

“On Thursday at around 5:40pm, it is alleged a 37-year-old man assaulted two Police Officers after being asked to tip out alcohol on Davidson Walk in Tennant Creek,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.

“He refused and during the altercation, it is alleged the male shoved one Officer repeatedly in the chest then picked up a rock and used it to punch another Officer to the face.

“At around 11pm on Friday a 23-year-old woman in custody in Alice Springs is alleged to have become aggressive. As a result, one Officer was punched to the head and another was bitten on the arm.

“On Saturday at 7:00pm Police received a report of a disturbance on Erumba Street in Braitling. Police attended and located a 26-year-old man allegedly attempting to unlawfully gain entry to the house. He became violent and assaulted two Police Officers.

“All three alleged offenders have been charged with assault a member of the Police force and will appear in court in the coming weeks.

“These attacks can have a significant impact on Officers and their families.

“It is totally unacceptable for Officers to be attacked when doing their job.”
