Update - Search for missing man - Oenpelli

Police

Police this afternoon located the body of missing man James Browne near the East Alligator River.

Acting Superintendent Nathan Finn said a search helicopter located the man approximately 2.5km north west of where his quad bike was located yesterday.

Police conducted an extensive search for the 23-year-old man since he was reported missing on Thursday morning, however he was located deceased in heavy mangroves at around 2:30pm today adjacent to the East Alligator River,” A/Supt Finn said.

“It appears the man left his quad bike when it became bogged and continued walking along the river.

“Park Rangers, NT Emergency Service Volunteers and Police from the Territory Response Group and local stations all assisted tirelessly with the search. I’d also like to thank the assistance from members of the Oenpelli community and especially members of the man’s family and friends.

“During the search there were two helicopters used, six quad bikes, 10 vehicles and more than 30 people searching on foot.”

Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
