Fatal Crash - Winnellie

Police

A 46-year-old male cyclist has been killed after being struck by a car on Winnellie Road just before 10:00pm last night.

Territory Duty Superintendent Rob Farmer said despite the best efforts of responding witnesses, St John and police personnel, the man passed away.

“Major Crash Detectives believe a blue Toyota Camry may have been the offending vehicle and are calling for public assistance to locate this vehicle, which failed to stop at the scene.

“Police are also appealing to the driver and passenger in the vehicle to hand themselves in,” Superintendent Farmer said.

“Detectives are interested in viewing any private or business CCTV vision that covers Winnellie Road east of the Winnellie Hotel.

“They are also asking anyone who sights a vehicle similar to the one described that has front end damage to please contact police.”

Anyone who can assist or has information is urged to call 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations are continuing.

The 2016 road toll is 45.
