Fatal crash Alice Springs

Police

Members of the Territory Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a two vehicle crash north of Alice Springs in which an 81-year-old woman has died overnight.

Initial information indicates around 4pm a Toyota Hilux carrying three people was travelling just north of Wycliffe Well when it has attempted to overtake a Holden Commodore.

The Holden Commodore has allegedly turned right into the path of the overtaking vehicle and the two vehicles have collided, causing the Toyota Hilux to roll a number of times.

The three people from the Toyota Hilux initially survived the crash and contacted Police, however the rear passenger’s condition quickly deteriorated and she died whilst at the Ali Curung Health Clinic last night.

The 48-year-old male driver and 52-year-old female passenger received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the Alice Springs Hospital.

The three people travelling in the Commodore are believed to have survived the crash, however left the scene prior to police and emergency services arrival.

Police are still looking for the occupants of the Holden Commodore and investigations surrounding the crash continue.
