Charges – Stolen vehicle – Darwin

Strike Force Trident investigators have arrested and charged two males in relation to the theft of a motor vehicle.

A 13-year-old male is believed to have stolen a vehicle from a Wulagi residence on Monday, 9 December, and travelled to Kununurra with two males, aged 14 and 20.

The trio were arrested by Kununurra Police at a vehicle stop on Wednesday, 11 December. They appeared before Kununurra Local Court in relation to the offences committed in Western Australia yesterday. The 13-year-old and 20-year were granted bail and the 14-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Kununurra Local Court today.

A charter flight was arranged to convey the 13-year-old and 20-year-old back to Darwin. The plane was met by Strike Force Trident investigators at Darwin Airport yesterday evening and the two males were arrested for the Northern Territory offences and conveyed to Darwin Watch House.

The 13-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, drive unlicensed, and breach of bail. The 20-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle.

The 14-year-old male is expected to be charged upon his arrival back to the Northern Territory.

Senior Constable First Class Steven Flynn said “we would like to reassure the public that the offending appears to be an isolated incident however we ask road users to continue to exercise caution, particularly coming into the festive period.”

“We ask anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle between 9 and 11 December to come forward. The vehicle, which has been recovered, is a blue Toyota Camry with NT registration 613772.
