Northern Territory Police have arrested three people in relation to drug offences on Sunday 21 June 2020.
At around 12:30pm, a member of the public contacted police after locating a quantity of alcohol and a bag containing cannabis in a garden bed next to a fuel station in Adelaide River.
While the man was on the phone to police, a green Landcruiser pulled up at the location, allegedly demanding the bag back. The man advised that police had been contacted and the alleged offenders fled the scene.
Members attend the fuel station and seized the alcohol and the bag, containing 224 grams of cannabis and recent boarding passes with the identities of the alleged offenders.
At around 5:30pm, police apprehended the vehicle of interest on the Stuart Highway approximately 7km north of Katherine.
The occupants of the vehicle were conveyed to Katherine Watch House.
The 27-year-old male driver was charged with:
- possess schedule 2 dangerous drug – traffickable quantity – public place
- drive low range drink driving
- drive unlicensed
- drive with child not using restraint
- drive vehicle with defect label
- smoke in vehicle with child under 16
Two 25-year-old male passengers were charged with:
- possess schedule 2 dangerous drug – traffickable quantity – public place
- adult passenger fail to wear seatbelt
- give false information
- possess schedule 2 dangerous drug – public place
- smoke in vehicle with child under 16
A 25-year-old female passenger was also present at the time. She was issued with a notice to appear for:
- possess schedule 2 dangerous drug – traffickable quantity – public place
- adult passenger fail to wear seatbelt
- give false information
All four offenders are due to appear in Alyangula Local Court on 15 September 2020.
