Arrest - Stealing - Fannie Bay

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 39-year-old man following a series of alleged stealing offences.

On Tuesday 11 August 2020, police received a report of stealing from a retail store in Coconut Grove. The man allegedly loaded a utility with tools and other items valued at $3600 before driving off without paying.

Later the same day, the man allegedly stole tools valuing $1200 from a tradesman working on Woods Street, Darwin City. The tradesman left his tools unattended and the man placed them into his backpack before riding off from the location.

On Thursday 13 August, police attended the man’s residence to execute a search warrant. Upon police entering the residence, the man climbed out a window onto the roof and climbed down into a neighbouring residence before fleeing through the back door and jumping the fence.

Police immediately pursued on foot through multiple adjoining streets before the man stole a push bike and rode towards Vesty’s Beach. Police Patrol Dog Wedge was deployed and located the man who was arrested and conveyed to Palmerston Watch House. 

The man was charged with:

  • stealing x 3
  • trespass on enclosed premises x 2
  • drive unlicensed.

He will appear in Darwin Local Court today.  

During the search of the man’s residence a quantity of illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia were located, resulting in the seizure of a quantities of cannabis, methamphetamine and MDMA.

A 50-year-old woman also living at the location was issued with a notice to appear in court for:

  • possess schedule 1 – less than traffickable quantity
  • possess schedule 2 – less than traffickable quantity
  • possess thing to administer dangerous drug.

She will appear in Darwin Local Court at a later date.
