Arrests - Unlawful entry and motor vehicle theft - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police arrested four people following a foot pursuit from a stolen motor vehicle in the Alice Springs CBD yesterday.

The vehicle, which had been reported as stolen from an unlawful entry of a home in Gillen on Sunday morning, was sighted by police driving recklessly and putting other road users and pedestrians at risk on Sunday morning.

At 1235 officers sighted the vehicle on Hartley Street and on approaching it, the driver made a sudden U-turn over the centre island becoming stuck.

Three youth ran from the vehicle while the driver again attempted to drive away but ended up ramming a number of parked vehicles before fleeing on foot.

The 16-year-old male driver was arrested following a foot pursuit with police, and was charged with one count of Unlawful entry and one count of Unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He has been remanded in custody to appear before court on 27 October.

CCTV operators together with front line police located the three outstanding youth who had ran from the vehicle, and a 13-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl were both charged with one count each of Unlawful entry and Unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A fourth person, a 13-year-old girl will be considered for Youth Diversion.
