Call for witnesses - Assault - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to an assault in Alice Springs on Friday night, to contact them.

A man was waiting out the front of a take-away food outlet on Todd Street when he was approached by another man, unknown to him, around 11pm.

After a brief conversation it is alleged one man lunged at the other man armed with a knife. The victim grabbed hold of the offender’s arm with both hands, and a struggle between the two has ensued. A bystander assisted the victim in attempting to disarm the man.

A 23-year-old man who witnessed the incident entered the shop and removed the knife, disarming the offender before leaving the scene.  The knife was reportedly handed into a 24 hour store nearby. 

At some point during the struggle the victim had a front tooth knocked out. No one else was injured during the incident.

Police continue to conduct inquiries in relation to this incident and urge anyone who has information which may assist with investigations, to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
