Charge - Dangerous Riding - Berrimah

Police

Northern Territory Police are reminding members of the public to be safe on the roads whilst weather conditions are not ideal for road users.

At approximately 7:30am this morning, Darwin Traffic Operations apprehended a 25-year-old male riding a motorcycle traveling outbound on Wishart Road.

The male rider was travelling at a speed of 147km/h in an 80km zone.

A notice to appear was issued and he is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 4 February 2020, charged with Drive Speed Dangerous.

Acting Commander Neil Hayes from the Road Policing Command said “Travelling at this speed in fine weather conditions is nothing short of dangerous, and in today’s weather conditions is just a recipe for disaster.

People need to be aware of the risk they are not only posing to themselves, but to other road users.

With this type of weather expected for the coming days, please slow down and drive to the conditions.”

Media note: Drive Speed Dangerous comes into effect when the offender drives 45km or more over the speed limit.
