Investigators from Serious Crime have charged an 18-year-old female with arson following an incident overnight in Palmerston.

At around 3am, NT Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire in a loading bay behind a supermarket. Firefighters extinguished the fire, with the building’s facade sustaining some smoke and fire damage. A short time after the incident police arrested an 18-year-old female.

The woman has been charged with one count of arson and criminal damage. She was remanded and will appear in Darwin Local Court tomorrow.

Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Malogorski said, “A truck driver has stopped and helped prevent the fire extending into the building.  Police would like to speak with the driver and his passenger.

“This was an excellent response by NT Police and NT Fire and Rescue Service.
