Detectives from the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) have arrested a 22-year-old man for possessing child abuse material.

Northern Territory Police and Australian Federal Police executed a search warrant at the man’s residence in Jabiru yesterday. During the search, police located electronic items and online accounts which allegedly contained child abuse material.

The man has been charged with five counts of possess child abuse material.

He will appear in Jabiru Local Court on 22 September 2020.

Northern Territory Police Detective Sergeant Paul Lawson said, “JACET is a taskforce bringing together the NT Police and AFP to combat online child exploitation, as part of a collaborative and coordinated national platform for policing agencies to address the abhorrent activity associated with child exploitation”.  

AFP Detective Sergeant Richard Matejic, Northern Territory JACET said the AFP will continue to work with territory law enforcement partners to identify, arrest and prosecute those who target the most vulnerable in our community.

 “These people may think they can hide their activity from law enforcement, but this arrest shows we will not stop pursuing you.”
