Charges – Pursuit – Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 33-year-old man following a traffic pursuit over the weekend.

At around 10:50pm on Saturday 28 March, police observed the man driving his vehicle in Palmerston. Police attempted to conduct a traffic apprehension on the vehicle however the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was commenced. Police lost sight of the vehicle and the pursuit was terminated.

The vehicle was sighted shortly afterwards in Durack and a second pursuit commenced. The driver eventually abandoned the vehicle in Durack and fled on foot. With the assistance of a K-9 unit, the man was located hiding in tall grass and was arrested by police.

Police searched the man and located approximately nine grams of methamphetamine, approximately 8 grams of cocaine, a Taser, a butterfly knife and a cut-throat style razor.

The man has been charged with:

  • 2x possess schedule 1 dangerous drug - traffickable quantity
  • 2x possess/use prohibited weapon
  • 1x possess/use controlled weapon
  • 1x supply schedule 1 dangerous drug
  • 1x drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • 1x drive manner dangerous during a pursuit
  • 1x fail to obey direction of police officer

The man also had an outstanding warrant of apprehension for breach order suspended sentence. He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
