COVID-19 - Infringement Notices – 5 April

Police

Police have issued another two infringement notices for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011.

A 43-year-old male in Wulagi recently returned home from Melbourne and failed to self-quarantine as required. Police were notified by a concerned member of the public and spoke with the man who admitted the breach.

A 23-year-old female in Zuccoli breached self-quarantine by attending a supermarket on two occasions to buy groceries. The shop manager contacted police and reported the breaches. Police spoke with the female who confirmed she had attended the supermarket.

Both individuals were issued with an infringement penalty of $1,099 and referred to Environmental Health Officers to conduct a risk assessment on the individuals and determine if contract tracing is required.

NT Police, Public and Environmental Health officers and Australian Defence Force continue to undertake quarantine compliance checks to ensure people are completing their 14 days quarantine.

Physical distance monitoring and enforcing the public gathering limit of ten persons also continues. Territorians are strongly advised to observe the two person limit where possible.

The key message to all Territorians is to “Stay home, if you can”.

The public can be assured that fines will be issued to anyone not respecting the community and doing the right thing.

2,074 compliance checks have now been completed with six fines issued.
