Police have issued another infringement notice for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011.

On Monday 6 April 2020, a 29-year-old male travelled from Perth to Darwin and failed to comply with mandatory quarantine directions. Police were monitoring the man due to him being identified as ‘high-risk’ for potential non-compliance upon his arrival into Darwin.

The man was issued with an infringement penalty of $1,099 and referred to Environmental Health Officers to conduct a further risk assessment on the individual however the male has had very limited interaction with the public. 

NT Police, Public and Environmental Health officers and Australian Defence Force continue to undertake quarantine compliance checks to ensure people are completing their 14 days quarantine.

Physical distance monitoring and enforcing the public gathering limit of ten persons also continues. Territorians are strongly advised to observe the two person limit where possible.

The key message to all Territorians is to “Stay home, if you can”.

The public can be assured that fines will be issued to anyone not respecting the community and doing the right thing.

2,317 compliance checks have now been completed with seven fines issued.
