Drug seizures - Operation Starck

Police

Northern Territory Police have seized a quantity of cannabis destined for remote communities as part as Operation Starck.

Operation Starck was established by Drug and Organised Crime Squad (DOCS) to disrupt the import of illicit substances, including cannabis and alcohol, into remote communities. Screening of air and sea freight included the physical inspection of shipments by DOCS members and use of detector dogs from the Dog Operations Unit.

Yesterday at Darwin Airport police seized a total of more than 360 grams destined for four different communities

Police estimate the street value of cannabis seized to be $30,000 - $50,000.

Detective Senior Sergeant Crispin Gargan said police will continue to crack down on those who attempt to bring harmful substances in remote communities.

“The irresponsibility and greed of those attempting to bring drugs into communities is just unacceptable. If you’re thinking about bringing drugs into communities, then think again. We will stop you and you will be held accountable.”

Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information on the importation of illicit substance is urged to contact police on 131 444 or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
