Northern Territory Police have arrested three people in relation to forgery, stealing and drug offences.
On 1 March 2020, the trio leased a furnished apartment in Woolner where they allegedly stole furniture and contents valued at approximately $25,000.
Between 14 March and 20 April 2020, the three had medical consultations with doctors where they obtained lawful prescriptions. They allegedly used the doctor’s details to produce fraudulent prescriptions at 19 chemists in the Darwin area and unlawfully obtain pharmaceuticals.
On Monday 15 June, detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Division conducted a search warrant at a Rosebery residence. The two men, aged 25 and 27, and a 23-year-old woman were arrested.
During the search warrant, police located dangerous drugs and evidence of fraudulent activity.
Both men were charged with:
- 20 x obtain benefit by deception
- 1 x possess schedule 2 dangerous drug – traffickable quantity
- 9 x possess schedule 2 dangerous drug – less than traffickable quantity
- 4 x unauthorised possession of schedule 4 substance
- 2 x unauthorised possession of schedule 8 substance
- 1 x stealing
They were scheduled to appear before Darwin Local Court today.
The woman was summonsed to appear before Darwin Local Court at a later date.
Senior Constable Tim Jones said, “Police are aware that in March 2020, the group established a business called NT Debt Recovery Group. Information suggests that they have been establishing lines of credit and sending out fraudulent debts and invoices for payment throughout the Darwin region. Police are seeking assistance from members of the public who may have been victims of fraud from this business”.
