Long weekend compliance and traffic operations

Police

Police have issued two infringement notices for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011.

Over the May Day long weekend two women, aged 35 and 43, breached their mandatory quarantine requirements by leaving their hotels in Alice Springs.

Compliance teams were conducting checks on the two women who were staying in separate accommodation. Both women left their accommodation to visit family and friends.

NT Police, Environmental Health officers and Australian Defence Force continue to undertake quarantine compliance checks to ensure people are completing their 14 days quarantine.

7,391 compliance checks have now been completed with 44 fines issued.

With the easing of restrictions police increased road policing activities.

A total of 5999 vehicle speed checks were conducted, 208 traffic infringement notices issued and two people were arrested for medium range drink driving.
