Police

The following is for the attention of rural landholders, Litchfield residents ONLY within the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) emergency response area (ERA). https://pfes.nt.gov.au/sites/default/files/uploads/files/2019/darwin-berrimah.pdf

Permits to burn will be available to NTFRS ERA rural landholders from now on via email. Requests for permits to burn will only be received between 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday to Saturday.

Contact your local fire station for issuing of permits to burn. Do not contact your volunteer fire brigade.

Identification address and property address must match. There will be no exceptions.

Strict conditions are in place for permits to burn, and infringements will be issued if non-compliant burns commence.

You must only burn garden green waste only. No building or household waste allowed. Burn piles are to be no larger than five metres by five metres, and must have cleared four metre wide fire breaks on all sides.

The property must comply with Fire and Emergency Regulations regarding fire breaks.

The permitted burn must be monitored by a competent person over the age of 18 at all times until extinguished.

Neighbours must be notified at least 48 hours before commencing a permit burn, and NTFRS must be notified prior to ignition.

Each site should have sufficient resources to extinguish the fire if required.

The NTFRS encourage all landholders to consider alternatives to burning wherever possible.

You must notify the Joint Emergency Services Call Centre before lighting and after the burn is completed on 89221533.
