Northern Territory Police have apprehended a youth in relation to a property damage incident and assault of police officers in Tennant Creek at the weekend.

Just after 1:30am on Saturday it is alleged a group of youth had armed themselves with rocks and sticks and threatened staff with violence before damaging parked cars and glass panels of the service station on Paterson Street.

The youth fled the area and no one was injured during the incident.

Detectives from the Tennant Creek Investigations Division identified and arrested two 10-year-old boys involved in the incident. The pair will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

A 13-year-old boy, who was involved in the incident, was identified and apprehended during which time it is alleged he kicked and spat at officers. He was transported to the Tennant Creek Watch House where he continued to be aggressive towards police and is alleged to have spat in an officer’s face.

He will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

Police inquiries continue into identifying others involved in the property damage and threats towards staff.
