Vehicle seized – Anti-hooning – Katherine

Police

Northern Territory Police have seized a vehicle under anti-hooning legislation.

At about 10.30am on Tuesday 26 May 2020, a white Holden VS utility was observed travelling at excessive speed on Riverbank Drive by a member of the public. The vehicle then conducted a burnout on Lucy Street. The incident was reported to police.

Police identified the driver, attended his residence and seized the vehicle. The 19-year-old male driver was not present at the time. The driver does not hold a drivers licence and the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured. He is scheduled to appear in Katherine Local Court at a later date.

Superintendent Daniel Shean said, “When the public observes someone doing a burnout and is willing to make a statement to police, police will seize the vehicle and deal with the driver according to the law. Driving at dangerous speeds in a 60km/h zone and doing burnouts pose a danger to other road users and potentially pedestrians. This sort of driving behaviour will not be tolerated.”
