Arrest - Officer assaulted - Palmerston

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 20-year-old female after she allegedly assaulted a member of the police force.

Earlier this morning, the woman was arrested for alleged disorderly behaviour in a public place. She was taken to Palmerston Watch House and during her processing, has allegedly spat in the officer’s face.

The woman was arrested for:

  • Disorderly behaviour in a public place

  • Assault a member of the police force

Acting Superintendent Paul Faustmann has said, “ It is completely unacceptable for our members to be assaulted whilst trying to complete their policing duties, our members deserve to be able to protect NT communities without the risk of being assaulted.”

Under section 189A of the Criminal Code Act 1983, assaults on police or emergency workers carry maximum penalties of imprisonment of 16 years.

She is expected to be charged at a later date and will appear before Darwin Local Court at a date to be determined.
