Northern Territory Police have arrested three men in relation to a stealing with violence incident in Darwin overnight.

Just before 8pm a 28 year old man was walking down Smith Street Mall when he was assaulted by the three men who attempted to steal his backpack.

The trio fled when they were disturbed by a security guard. The man was treated by St Johns Ambulance for minor injuries.

Police located and arrested three men, ages 29, 30 and 50-years-old a short time later, and transported them to the Palmerston Watch House. It is expected they will be charged with Assault – with intent to steal.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has information which may assist with investigations, to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
