Call for public assistance - Robbery - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have released CCTV image of a person they wish to speak to in relation a robbery in Alice Springs earlier this week.

Around 8:30pm on Tuesday 27 April, a 50-year-old man was getting out of a taxi at a taxi rank on Gregory Terrace when he was approached by a person sitting nearby who grabbed his wallet and fled towards the Todd River.

The victim walked to a nearby licensed premises where he alerted staff and police.

Detective Acting Sergeant Sean Aila of Strike Force Viper had released a CCTV image still of a person who was in the area at the time of the incident, and who he believe has information which may assist.

“Investigations to-date have not identified the offender, so we’re hoping the release of this image may identify someone who was in the area at the time of the robbery,” said Det A/Sgt Aila.

“It’s an absolute cowardly act upon a vulnerable person, so we’re keen to arrest the perpetrator so as to prevent further incidents like this occurring.”

Police would like to speak with a young man who was seen in the area who is of Indigenous appearance, with a tall skinny build and was wearing a black hooded jumper, black shorts and black sneakers.
